New Delhi : Many lives could have been saved during the second wave of the corona pandemic had the strategy been implemented in time... a parliamentary panel has said while slamming the government for not being able to anticipate the gravity of the situation. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health, in its 137th report tabled in the Rajya Sabha, said the second wave was undoubtedly causing more cases, rising deaths, lack of oxygen and beds in hospitals, shortfall in supply of medicines and other vital medicines. Hoarding and black marketing of essential health care services, oxygen cylinders and medicines etc. were the main reasons for this.

According to PTI, the parliamentary committee in its report said, "The committee is of the view that if the government was successful in identifying the virus in the population at an early stage and the strategy was implemented appropriately to get its control, the results would be less." would have been serious and many lives could have been saved."

The committee found that India is one of the countries with the highest incidence of corona cases in the world. The vastness of the country's population posed a major challenge in the face of the pandemic. The committee noted that the country witnessed tremendous pressure due to critical health infrastructure and acute shortage of health workers. It also noted here that the government was unable to accurately predict the severity of the pandemic and the possible resurgence of its subsequent waves.
