Lok Sabha Elections: Amidst the Lok Sabha elections 2024, there is an uproar in West Bengal on the issue of OBC reservation for Muslims. Calcutta High Court has ordered to cancel all OBC certificates given after 2010. However, on the other hand, state CM Mamata Banerjee has said that she will not accept the order of the High Court. Now Union Home Minister Amit Shah has attacked the Mamata government on this issue. He has said that we will ensure that the decision of the High Court is implemented.

What did Mamata Banerjee say?

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said- "Today I heard a judge passing an order, who has been quite famous. The Prime Minister is saying about this that minorities will take away the reservation, can this ever happen? Minorities can never touch tribal reservation, but these mischievous people (BJP) get their work done through agencies, they have given the order through someone but I will not accept this opinion, those who have given the order should keep it to themselves. We will not accept BJP's opinion, OBC reservation is continuing and will always continue."

Robbery on reservation of backward classes- Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hit back at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's remarks. He said - "This matter is basically from there when Mamata Banerjee gave OBC reservation to 118 Muslim castes without any backwardness survey process, someone went to the court and the court took cognizance of it and all the certificates have been issued from 2010 to 2024. Gave a stay order. Mamta Banerjee wants to rob the backward class and give it to the Muslims.

We will implement the High Court order- Amit Shah

Amit Shah said that I welcome the decision of the High Court. I want to ask the people of Bengal that it is possible for a Chief Minister, a person holding a constitutional post, not to obey the order of the High Court, what kind of mentality is the democracy of Bengal passing through. I strongly condemn this. We will ensure that the decision of the High Court is implemented and the backward classes get their rights and not those who are not backward, due to appeasement and vote bank policy. BJP opposes this because the Constitution does not allow reservation on the basis of religion.
