Mohammed Shami / Will this star's Test career also end after Rohit-Virat? A big shock may come

Team India's veteran bowler Mohammed Shami's Test career is in danger. According to the BCCI medical team, Shami is unable to bowl long spells, which may rule him out of the England tour. Rohit and Kohli have already retired, now it may be Shami's turn.

Mohammed Shami: Indian cricket is going through a major change these days. Recently, giants like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket, which created an emotional wave among cricket fans. Now questions have been raised on the future of another big player - Mohammed Shami. According to reports, his name may be dropped from the Indian Test team for the upcoming England tour, which is feared to put a full stop to his Test career.

Why is Shami not being selected for the England tour?

The medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that the 34-year-old Shami is currently not in a position to bowl long spells. In a country like England where long spells are expected from fast bowlers, it is considered difficult for Shami to play the entire Test series. According to the Indian Express report, the selectors are now relying on fully fit players who can bowl 10-15 overs continuously if needed.

A BCCI source said, "Shami is currently bowling only 4 overs in the IPL. But we don't know if he can bowl all day in Test matches. England's pitches are beneficial for fast bowlers, but consistent performance is required there. In such a situation, the board does not want to take any risk."

Should Shami's Test career be considered over now?

Mohammed Shami last played a Test match in June 2023, that too in the final of the World Test Championship. Since then, he has been out of the team due to injury and fitness problems. Despite his stellar performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, injuries kept him away from the Test team. He recently made a comeback in T20 and ODIs, but he was not impressive.

Shami's performance in IPL 2025 has also been very disappointing. He has taken only 6 wickets in 9 matches and his economy rate was 11.23 - which is a matter of concern for any fast bowler. In such a situation, both his form and fitness are under question.

BCCI's new thinking: Trust in young players

BCCI is now showing trust in young players keeping the future in mind. Big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin have already said goodbye to Test cricket. The board is busy laying the foundation of a new team, which can strengthen Team India in the coming years.

Due to this policy, it is being speculated that if Shami is out of this tour, then his return to the Test team will become almost impossible.
