Afghanistan | On Thursday, at least 10 worshipers were killed and 40 others were injured in a powerful explosion at a Shia mosque in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan. The head of Mazar-e-Sharif's main hospital, Dr. Ghausuddin Anwari, told FP news agency that the dead and injured were brought in ambulances and private cars. The report said the blast occurred at the Sai Doken Mosque in northern Mazar-e-Sharif when Muslims were offering prayers during the holy month of Ramzan.

The AFP news agency quoted Zabihullah Noorani, the head of the information and culture department of Balkh province, as saying that preliminary reports confirmed there were at least 25 casualties. "The explosion took place inside a Shia mosque in the district, killing and wounding more than 20 people," spokesman of the Taliban commander in Mazar-e-Sharif, Mohammad Asif Wajeri, told Reuters news agency.

It is worth noting that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The incident follows three explosions at a high school in western Kabul, killing at least six people and injuring children. The victims belong to the Shia Hazara community, an ethnic and religious minority often targeted by Sunni terrorist groups, including the Islamic State.

Ever since the Taliban regime took control of Afghanistan, explosions and attacks have become a regular affair in the country. With another incident two children were injured in Kabul earlier in the day. "The explosion took place at Kambar Chowk, Police District 5, Kabul City," Tolonews tweeted, quoting the Interior Ministry.
