Rajasthan High Court lawyer and RTI activist Govardhan Singh has been arrested by the Sadar Police of Jaipur. Advocate Govardhan Singh has been arrested by the police for making indecent and casteist remarks against a woman police officer Sandhya Yadav two years ago. Earlier, the arrest of Govardhan Singh was stayed by the High Court. On Wednesday 27 April, the High Court lifted the stay on arrest. Soon after, the Jaipur Police arrested Advocate Govardhan Singh from the main gate of the High Court and was taken to the Sadar police station.


Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Pal Lamba said that on April 3, 2020, at the time of lockdown, ACP Sandhya Yadav had interrogated Govardhan Singh and other persons on the blockade while on duty, under the Khasa Kothi culvert.


During this, Govardhan Singh and other persons used abusive language with the woman officer and after this objectionable comments were made against the woman police officer on social media. After which a case was registered against the accused advocate at Sadar police station.

The preliminary investigation of the case was done by ACP Pramod Swamy and the crime was considered certified. Even after this, the police officers to whom the investigation was given. After the investigation of the case, everyone considered the crime to be proved. After that, after the ban on arrest was lifted by the court today, the accused Govardhan Singh was arrested by the Sadar police.


What did the Additional Police Commissioner say?

Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Pal Lamba said that there are 21 criminal cases registered against the accused. In this case too, apart from the accused, the names of five other people have also come to the fore, against whom investigation is being done. At present, Sadar ACP is investigating the matter.
