The Central Government today decided to limit the scope of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, taking a big step in view of the North Eastern states. This special law will now be limited to certain areas of these states. Its area has been reduced.

There has been a long-standing demand from the North-East states to remove this law. However, instead of removing it completely, the Center has decided to limit it to some disturbed areas. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed this decision of the government. Shah said that a new era of peace, prosperity and development is visible there due to the commitment of PM Narendra Modi towards the north-eastern states which have been feeling neglected for decades. On this occasion, I congratulate the people of the North-East.

Security situation improved, effect of peace agreement

The Home Minister said that the reduction in the areas under the ambit of AFSPA has been due to the improvement in the security situation in these states, rapid development and all the peace agreements. The Modi government has restored peace in the North East.
