Cyclone Yaas: States along the east coast of India are gearing up for Ah Cyclone Yas. The cyclone is expected to make a landfall between North Odisha and Sundarbans (in West Bengal) on 26 May. The cyclone is coming days after Hurricane Toute, which wreaked havoc on the west coast. Due to this, dozens of people have lost their lives.

PM Modi's high level meeting

In such a situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a review meeting on Sunday (May 23) for the preparations for the cyclone YAS. Home Minister Amit Shah, power, civil aviation, representatives of National Disaster Management Authority, senior government officials, secretaries of earth science ministries and other ministers will also attend this high level meeting.

Task force deployment

Here, in view of the meteorological department's alert, the Indian Army has deployed engineers and task forces in Odisha and West Bengal. At the same time, the Navy has sent 8 teams of flood relief and rescue to Odisha and West Bengal to deal with the potential danger of storms. Apart from this, the Indian Navy has also sent 4 teams of divers to these states.

The 22-member team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been pressed into service by the state government in view of cyclone YAS. It has been asked to stock essential commodities and move people to local wind shelters.
