The US has decided to call the repression of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar five years ago by the military government as a genocide. During this, about 10 lakh Rohingyas were expelled from the country. For this heinous methods like mass murders, rape, burning of families alive and drowning were adopted.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday officially called the Myanmar violence a genocide. The legal document for war crimes will be released on this occasion. American investigators prepared it in 2018. This document will be kept in the American Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. In these it is said that the military government of Myanmar massacred the Rohingyas.

Along with this, additional economic sanctions will be imposed against the military government of Myanmar and punitive action can also be taken by cutting aid. Myanmar's military government, also known as Tatmoda, overthrew the democratic government of Myanmar under the leadership of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. The Biden administration has for the first time considered the capture of power by the military to be a rebellion or a coup.

With this decision, there can be a debate in America, because the previous Trump administration had postponed this decision. The US State Department was yet to decide whether to hold Myanmar's military junta responsible for the genocide of the minority Rohingya. On Sunday, a US State Department official confirmed it would be considered a genocide.

Anurima Bhargava, former chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, says that this is a confirmation of the atrocities that are happening even today. Those who did this massacre, they remain in power even today.
