Assam | A local court in Assam has allowed a 19-year-old jailed girl student to appear in the examination. The student, who was arrested for supporting the banned United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I), was jailed for two months. It also allegedly wrote an anti-national poem on Facebook. The student's lawyer told that a letter was written to the court demanding to appear in the examination, which has been approved.

The matter gained attention when his parents wrote a letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, appealing for his release to appear in the examination. Chief Minister Sarma had on Thursday said that college student Barashree Buragohain has been arrested for wanting to join the ULFA (I) and not for writing anti-national poetry. His remarks came amid protests by the people for the release of the student. Sarma had said that if her parents took the responsibility that she would not join the terrorist group, she would be released.

CM Sarma said - humans return as a bomb

The chief minister claimed that if she joins the ULFA (I), she will return as a human bomb and kill the common people of the state. Sarma said, "She is our daughter. We are trying to save her. We are still talking to her. Let her give the exam and appear in the interview. 42 youths have died in ULFA. If What if someone gives him death sentence in ULFA?"

Not arrested for writing poetry: Police

Assam Police Chief Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Wednesday that Buragohain has not been arrested for writing poetry. He said, "We came to know that she wants to join ULFA-I. Also encourages others to do so. So it was not a normal case, so she was arrested. It would be better if she joins ULFA," he said. Instead of joining, stay in jail."
