Bengaluru | The floods in Karnataka ahead of the coming assembly elections have raised the concerns of the political parties here. The way the city's infrastructure has been exposed due to heavy rains and floods, the legislators of the ruling party are the most upset. He fears that the assembly elections to be held after seven months and the BBMP elections to be held by the end of this year may jeopardize his political ambitions.

tarnished brand bangalore

Heavy rains and subsequent floods have caused massive damage in Bengaluru. Apart from this, life has also been greatly affected. Not only this, some people have complained that it is tarnishing the image of 'Brand Bangalore'. The IT industry, which has dominated Bengaluru, has suffered the biggest brunt of this rain and floods. At the same time, it is also believed that during this crisis, resentment is growing among a group of citizens disappointed with the political class.

If BJP is afraid, even Congress can't get away

According to some political analysts, the ruling BJP is fearing this the most. It is concerned because the state government is being directly blamed for this crisis in the absence of an elected municipal council of the city. At the same time, 15 out of 27 MLAs of BBMP area are also from BJP. Of these, seven are also ministers in the cabinet. The Congress, however, has an opportunity to blame the ruling party for the situation and may not be at the center of public outcry. But the country's oldest party with 11 MLAs may have to bear its share, as it was in power in Bengaluru and Karnataka in the last few decades. Also, there are many Congress MLAs from the city, who have been MLAs and ministers in the past and public anger can be seen against them too.

New parties can take advantage

Political analyst at Azim Premji University, A. Narayan said that in his opinion such developments may have a more political impact on the BBMP elections than the Assembly polls. However, the road to elections is going to be difficult for the ruling party as it is at the center of public outcry, he said. He said that there is also the question of who will benefit from this and I think out of all the parties, the Aam Aadmi Party and any other new party will be in a better position to take advantage of it. According to him, Congress will be on the defensive. Since the ruling BJP will be held responsible for this situation, then naturally the Congress also has to give an explanation for this situation being in power in the past.

Anti-incumbency wave is starting to form

Regarding its impact on the assembly elections, Narayan said that right now we can say that the anti-incumbency wave is slowly building up. It will get more wind from the damage caused by rain and floods. At the same time, in the assembly elections, the popularity of the candidate will matter in some constituencies, the name of the party in some and both in others, he said. With public outcry rising, a round of accusations and counter-allegations has begun between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress over the management of the city's infrastructure.
