Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will take oath as Pakistan's foreign minister in the next one to two days. A senior PPP leader confirmed this on Saturday. This put an end to speculation that all is not normal among all the coalition partners in the government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Bilawal, 33, the front-runner for the post of foreign minister in Pakistan, was not sworn in on Tuesday, fueling speculation that he was not interested in joining the new government.
However, according to 'Geo News', PPP leader and advisor to Pakistan Prime Minister on matters related to Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira, while talking to reporters in London, has confirmed that Bilawal will be abroad within one to two days. The minister will take the oath of office.
Bilawal had recently arrived in London after not taking oath as foreign minister, where he met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif. During this, both the leaders discussed the 'overall political situation' of Pakistan and resolved to work together on issues related to politics and national interest.
The PPP and the PML-N are the two main political parties, which have been in power alternately when the military was not ruling the country. The mighty military has ruled the coup-prone country for more than half of its 75-plus years of existence.
Earlier, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb had assured that the PPP president would take oath after returning to Pakistan. Kaira told reporters that Bilawal has left for Pakistan after meeting Nawaz.
Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal, two key allies of the ruling coalition, issued a joint statement after the meeting. Discussed further ways and agreed to work together after "a constitutional victory for democracy, the rule of law and the supremacy of Parliament", the statement said.
