Calcutta | Like Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose should also have a picture on the notes in the country. Reply has been sought from the Central Government on the petition filed in the Calcutta High Court demanding this. The High Court has asked the government to respond within 8 weeks.

94-year-old petitioner Harendranath Biswas, who describes himself as a freedom fighter, has alleged in his petition that the central government has not given due recognition to Netaji. The counsel for the petitioner argued that the picture of Netaji should be put on the Indian currency notes.

Additional Solicitor General YJ Dastur, appearing for the Government of India, sought eight weeks' time to file the affidavit. Accepting the demand, a division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj directed that the matter be listed for hearing on February 21 next year.
