US President Joe Biden on Thursday announced the name of Carine Jean-Pierre as the new White House press secretary. Jane Psaki's last day will be on May 13, after which Pierre will take on the role of press secretary, currently serving as Psaki's assistant.


President praises Karine

President Joe Biden said he is proud to announce that Carine Jean-Pierre will serve as the next White House press secretary. Not only does Karine have the experience and talent needed for this difficult job, she said, but she will also facilitate communication on behalf of the American people about the work of the Biden-Harris administration.


US President Biden said that Jill and I have known and respected Karine for a long time and she will be a strong voice for me and this administration. Let us tell you that she became the first black woman to serve as the top spokesperson in the White House and the first member of the LGBTQ community.


Pierre is a longtime adviser to Biden

Carine Jean-Pierre is currently the Principal Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President. Carine is a longtime adviser to President Biden, having served in senior communications and political roles in the Biden administration, the Biden campaign, and then-Vice President Biden in the Obama administration.


President Biden praised Jane Psaki's work and said that I thank Jane for her service to the country, and wish her the best of luck as she moves forward.
