India / Cloudburst causes flash flood in Himachal's Dharamshala; video surfaces

Dharamshala: A cloudburst triggered flash floods near McLeodganj in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala due to incessant rainfall and caused severe damages to the public properties in Bhagsu village.

The state has been receiving heavy rainfall for the last few days. Several cars were swept away and hotels were damaged after the flash floods. Besides, around 10 shops were also damaged as the Manjhi River raged following the heavy rainfall in the state.

The National Highway was blocked near Jhakri in the Rampur area of Shimla district following the heavy rainfall. The process of clearing the road had begun with officials making their way to the site.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Nipun Jindal has informed that as many as two persons were reported missing in Kangra district due to heavy rain and flash floods. "We can't say it's a cloud burst in Bhagsu Nag but initially, it's a flash flood case due to heavy rain," he said.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas BV has urged the party workers to help the stranded tourists and locals affected by heavy floods.

"These visuals of Cloudburst in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh are terrifying. I urge youth congress workers to help tourists & citizens affected by heavy floods.  @IYCHimachal (sic)," he tweeted.

IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in HP

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Himachal Pradesh will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the coming days.

The MeT department has also issued an orange weather warning of heavy to very heavy rains in plains and mid-hills on July 12 and 13 July and a yellow weather warning for July 14 and 15.
