On this festival, sisters tie rakhi on their brother's wrist and wish for their long life and other well being. Brothers also promise to protect their sisters on this occasion. The festival of Rakshabandhan is celebrated every year on Shravani Purnima with great pomp.

This time the full moon of Shravan month will not be for one day, but for two days. According to astrology, Shravan Purnima is falling on 11th and 12th August. This is the reason that some people in the district are talking about celebrating Raksha Bandhan on August 11 and some are claiming that August 12 will be a festival. However, in most places in the district, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated only on 12 August. Bhadra will end after 8.25 pm on 11th August. After this sisters will be able to tie rakhi to brothers, but this festival is not celebrated at night. Therefore, the next day, the festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on 12th August, Friday as the rising date.
