Omicron Variants | The Omicron variant of Corona is once again gaining momentum. New cases have been reported in some countries. In view of this, the mask protocol will remain in force in India. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday chaired a review meeting to review the situation of corona virus in the country and the ongoing vaccination campaign.

Sub-variants of the Omicron strain are spreading rapidly. New variants are also coming out. In view of this, it was decided in the meeting that the rules on masks and COVID-appropriate behavior would continue across the country. The meeting was attended by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Rajiv Behl, NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul, National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) Chairman NK Arora and Department of Biotechnology Secretary Rajesh. Top officials including S Gokhale participated.

According to the bulletin shared by the health department, among the states, Maharashtra has registered a 17.7 per cent increase in coronavirus cases as compared to the last week. XBB is also included in the new Kovid cases detected in Maharashtra. The XBB is a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant, which has also been found in some other parts of the country including Kerala. In addition, other sub-variants of Omicron- BA.2.3.20 and BQ.1 variants have also been found in Maharashtra.

After the arrival of 1,542 new cases of corona virus infection in India in the last 24 hours, the total number of infected in the country increased to 4,46,32,430. These are the lowest daily cases reported in the last six months. The number of patients under treatment has come down to 26,449, which is 0.06 per cent of the total cases, according to the health ministry's updated data at 8 am on Tuesday. The number of patients under treatment has decreased by 385 in the last 24 hours. According to the ministry, the national recovery rate from Kovid-19 is 98.75 percent.
