AJMER: A youth was tied to a tree and thrashed for stealing a goat in Mohanpura village of Mandalgarh block of Bhilwara district.

As the video of the incident went viral, superintendent of police Vikas Sharma formed a team to investigate the matter. About eight people from the village were rounded up till Saturday evening and police are investigating the matter.

A video had gone viral in which a group of villagers caught a man named Ramesh Bhalai on Friday. They tied him to a tree and beat him up. The clothes of the victim were torn due to thrashing. In the video, people from the village can be seen gathered at the spot. Some of the villagers made the video which went viral on social media. The victim was found to have allegedly stolen a goat from the village and allegedly caught red-handed by the villagers.

As the video went viral, Bhilwara police took suo motu cognizance in the matter. SP Vikas Sharma said a team was sent to verify the video and to arrest the accused in the matter. He said that about eight people were identified and rounded up and will be arrested.

Bhilwara SP Vikas Sharma said, "It is not a matter of Dalia atrocity, as the victim and the accused are of same caste. The victim is a habitual thief and the villagers, who belong to his caste, were angry with him."

The victim has not come forward to make a complaint and police found that the victim is a history-sheeter and has dozens of theft cases against him.
