The Rajasthan Education Department has officially released the Shivira Panchang (Academic Calendar) for the 2026-2027 session, bringing a significant change for students and teachers. According to the new schedule, the duration of summer vacations has been reduced. The summer break will now commence on May 17, 2026, and conclude on June 20, 2026. Previously, schools enjoyed a longer break of 40 to 45 days extending until June 30, but students will now have only 35 days of vacation during the peak summer period.
Reasons for Reduced Holidays and Increased Teaching Days
Education Minister Madan Dilawar recently held a meeting with teacher organizations at Shiksha Sankul in Jaipur to discuss improving educational quality and student safety. Following this, the number of teaching days has been increased to 214 days for the upcoming session. Another strategic reason for ending the vacation on June 20 is International Yoga Day, celebrated annually on June 21. Previously, since schools were closed until June 30, staff and students had to be called in specifically for one day during their holidays. By reopening schools on June 21, the department ensures full participation in yoga activities without interrupting the vacation period.
Extreme Heatwave Conditions Across Rajasthan
4 degrees Celsius. 3 degrees Celsius. The IMD Jaipur has issued a heatwave warning for the next 3 to 4 days across parts of Western and North-Eastern Rajasthan. Temperatures in North-Western districts are expected to hover between 44 and 45 degrees. However, some relief is expected in Western and Northern parts due to potential dust storms and light drizzling in the afternoons.
Revised School Timings in Multiple Districts
In response to the rising mercury, several district administrations have modified school timings to protect students. In Kota, schools for classes up to 12th will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. In Dausa, for classes up to 8th, the timing is set from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM between April 24 and May 2. Similarly, Jaisalmer and Chittorgarh have also implemented a 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM schedule for students up to class 8th to mitigate the impact of the afternoon heat.
Government Guidelines for Heatwave Protection
The Disaster Management Department of Rajasthan has issued a set of safety guidelines for the public to prevent heatstroke.
The state government emphasizes that strict adherence to these safety protocols is necessary as the heatwave intensifies across the region, ensuring the well-being of all citizens during this period.
