New Delhi: In view of increasing Covid cases in the national capital, authorities have decided to do start random testing of passengers arriving from states where cases are increasing. These tests will begin from today and passengers found positive to be mandatorily quarantined.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory on Wednesday saying "District Disaster Management Authorities shall conduct random Covid-19 testing of passengers coming from the states where the cases are increasing."

After collections of samples, the travellers would be allowed to exit the airport. However, those passengers who are found positive, shall be mandatorily quarantined as per the protocol of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Covid-19 cases in Delhi

Worth mentioning here is that Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Delhi. On Monday, the city recorded 1,904 cases, the highest in around three-and-a-half-month. On Tuesday, 992 cases were reported in the national capital.

Other states have taken precautionary measures

In view of the rising Covid cases in the country, many states have taken precautionary measures. It may be noted that the Bengal government has made it mandatory for flyers to get an RT-PCR done prior to travel to the state (Kolkata, Bagdogra or Andal) from Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Kochi. Governments in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Andaman Nicobar Islands have also made pre-boarding RT-PCR test reports mandatory.

These curbs have directly affected air travel volume over the last few weeks.
