Delhi Police PC: Fake Posts From Pakistan Targeting CJP Protest, STF Formed

The Delhi Police has conducted its first official press conference regarding the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. During this briefing, the police highlighted a concerning trend of misinformation and fake news being circulated on various social media platforms to mislead the public and create panic. DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh addressed the media, providing specific details about how certain elements are attempting to manipulate the narrative surrounding the protest. The police emphasized that the CJP protest, which has been continuing for several days, is being used as a backdrop for spreading falsehoods.

Misinformation and Fake Narratives on Social Media

DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh stated that social media is being used to spread false and confusing videos related to the CJP protest. He emphasized that it isn't necessary for every post seen on social media to be accurate. The police have observed that a fake narrative is being intentionally built to disrupt peace and order. One of the most alarming revelations was the mention of a social media post claiming the death of a girl during an incident on July 20. The DCP clarified that this claim was entirely false and was designed to incite emotions among the protesters and the general public. The police noted that Instagram is being used on a large scale to disseminate these misleading videos and posts.

The Pakistan Connection and Deepfake Technology

In a significant disclosure, the Delhi Police revealed that several social media accounts operating from Pakistan are actively involved in posting false information about the protest. These accounts are being used to fuel the fire and create a sense of unrest, while the DCP pointed out that similar handles were active during the time of Operation Sindoor as well. On top of that, the use of advanced technology like deepfakes has been detected. A fake video of Sonam Wangchuk was circulated where the audio didn't match what he was actually saying. In another instance, a deepfake video was used to falsely claim that the Indian Army was being deployed at Jantar Mantar to handle the protesters. These tactics are aimed at creating a false impression of the government's actions.

Formation of STF and Monitoring Measures

To combat the spread of fake news and maintain law and order, the Delhi Police has announced the formation of a Special Task Force (STF). This team will specifically focus on monitoring social media activities and identifying those responsible for spreading panic. The DCP mentioned that one leader even posted a video claiming that the central government was preparing for a midnight crackdown on the protesters. The police have categorically denied such claims and stated that they're keeping a close watch on all digital activities, while the CJP protesters remain firm on their demands from the government, and this development comes shortly after the first statement from JP Nadda following his meeting with CJP leaders. The Delhi Police has urged the public not to believe everything they see online and to verify facts before sharing.
