Delhi Ramlila To Burn 30 Foot Cockroach Effigy Symbolizing Filth And Dirt

The Shree Keshav Ramlila Samiti in Pitampura, Delhi, has decided to burn a 30 foot tall cockroach effigy alongside Ravana this Dussehra to promote the Swachh Bharat campaign.

In a unique and significant move, the Shree Keshav Ramlila Samiti in Pitampura, Delhi, has announced that it will burn a 30 foot tall effigy of a cockroach during this year's Dussehra celebrations. This effigy will be set ablaze alongside the traditional figures of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad. The committee has stated that the cockroach is being used as a symbol of dirt and filth, and its destruction is intended to send a powerful message regarding cleanliness and hygiene to the public. This initiative is being closely linked to the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi campaigns, aiming to inspire citizens to keep their surroundings clean.

Symbolism and Social Message

The organizers of the Ramlila have explained that the cockroach represents the physical and metaphorical impurities that affect society. By burning this 30 foot structure, the committee hopes to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation. Ashok Goyal, the President of the Shree Keshav Ramlila Samiti and a BJP MLA, clarified that the decision to include a cockroach effigy isn't motivated by any political agenda. Instead, it's a social effort to integrate the message of cleanliness into the traditional narrative of the victory of good over evil. During the Ramlila performance, the cockroach will be depicted as part of the demon army belonging to Ravana, making it a central point of attraction for the audience this year.

Political Context and CJP Protests

This decision comes at a time when the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is actively protesting in the national capital, while the CJP has been demonstrating against Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The impact of the party's protests was previously seen in July, when the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign following intense pressure and demonstrations by the CJP, while while the Ramlila organizers maintain that their effigy is purely a symbol of filth, the political backdrop has added a layer of public interest to the event.

Tiranga March and Security Measures

In another development, CJP chief Abhijit Dipke has announced a Tiranga March to be held at the Central Park in Connaught Place, Delhi. He has called upon the public to join the march today at 5 PM, carrying the national flag. Dipke has coined the slogan "Lehra Do Tiranga" for this mobilization. In light of this planned march and to ensure public order, authorities have ordered the closure of Central Park in Connaught Place for two days, specifically today and Saturday, while the closure is a precautionary measure as the city manages both the protest activities and the preparations for the upcoming festive season.
