But when it comes to economic policies and performance, he has consistently rated the performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government higher than the previous United Progressive Government.

According to the nationwide tracker poll conducted by IANS-CVoter ahead of the Union Budget, the participants clearly stated that the performance rating of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-Nirmala Sitharaman duo during the pandemic fell from 33.9 per cent in 2020 to 25.6 per cent in 2022 . Earlier in 2010, the pair of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his aide Pranab Mukherjee had maintained a respectable level of 24.7 per cent.

Due to this the better-than-expected rating fell from 24.9 percent in 2010 to 5.8 percent in 2013. It was the last year of the UPA government's tenure when Finance Minister P. Chidambaram presented the budget.

Due to this the better-than-expected rating fell from 33.9 percent in 2020 to 25.6 percent in 2022. The best rating in the last 13 years was 38.5 percent when Arun Jaitley was the finance minister.

80 crore Indians were given free food grains

Analysts attribute this apparent gap in the pre- and post-Budget ratings to the promptness of the current government to act at an accelerated pace. The world's largest welfare scheme was launched in March 2020 when 80 crore Indians were given free food grains. This scheme is going to end in March 2022.
