Chennai: A thief's plan to rob an ATM goes for a toss when he is caught on camera stuck between the vestibule and the wall behind it. The incident took place inside a privately-owned ATM machine situated in Aniyapuram which is in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu.

Identified as M Upendra Roy, the 28-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when he tried to get to the ATM machine through the wall behind it. He was halfway through when he found himself stuck in an odd place. All the ruckus caused during this was heard by the nearby residents who then went on to inform the police of the incident.

When the police reached the scene, they found him in an awkward position as he was unable to come out of the 'sticky' spot. After he was rescued, he was taken under custody.

According to the Times of India and The Hindu, Roy originally hails from the East Champaran district in Bihar. He is working at a poultry feed manufacturing company in the Namakkal district.  Being drunk, he tried to pull the robbery off but was unsuccessful in doing so. When the local police rescued him, they arrested him.

As of now, the investigation is still on. Upendra Roy was lodged in the Namakkal sub-jail. He was presented in front of the judicial magistrate on Thursday evening. He is now put under judicial custody in the local sub-jail until the investigation reaches its conclusion.
