National Herald case / Enforcement Directorate ED asks Congress president Sonia Gandhi to depose late July

National Herald case : The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the alleged money laundering case in the National Herald case, has asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to appear before the end of July and record her statement. Sonia Gandhi had urged the ED to extend the date of her appearance by a few weeks due to her ill health. The ED accepted his request. Congress President Sonia Gandhi was to appear today i.e. on June 23.

Sources said the probe agency has postponed the proposed questioning of Sonia Gandhi for four weeks and now she has been asked to appear and record her statement sometime by the end of July. The Congress president was summoned by the ED on June 23 in connection with the alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald. He was recently admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to health issues related to Kovid-19, from where he was discharged on Monday evening.

Rahul Gandhi was questioned for 50 hours

In the same case, the ED questioned former party president Rahul Gandhi for more than 50 hours in five days during which his statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). According to officials, the questioning of senior Congress leaders and the Gandhi family is part of the ED's probe to understand the stake pattern, financial transactions and role of promoters of 'Young Indian' and 'Associated Journals Limited' (AJL).

Sonia, Rahul and some other members are named

Young Indian's promoters and shareholders include Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, among others, members of the Congress. The Congress says that the allegations leveled against its top leaders are baseless and the ED's action is being taken as part of the politics of vendetta. He also said that the party and its leadership are not going to bow down.
