Engineering colleges will no longer be able to charge arbitrary fees in BTech and BE. For the first time, a minimum and maximum fee slab has been prescribed for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering, design, art and craft programmes. In this, the fee for the first year engineering program has been fixed from about Rs 79 thousand to Rs 1.89 lakh annually.

Technical colleges will be able to fix fees based on facilities (computer lab, teachers, library) and city (Metro City, A, B, C category). The special thing is that in the second, third and fourth year colleges will be able to increase the fees applicable in the first year only up to five percent every year. This fee will be applicable in all government and private colleges in engineering, design, applied arts and craft programs from the academic session 2022-23.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) appointed Justice Srikrishnan Committee and Prof. The report prepared on the basis of the recommendations and review of Manoj Kumar Tiwari Committee has been passed in the council meeting held in February. After this the report has been sent for the approval of the Ministry of Education in the first week of March. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, AICTE will issue a notification to implement it from the upcoming academic session.

Five percent increase every year approved

The said technical colleges will be able to increase the fees by five percent every year. This fee hike will be applicable in all programs from the second year to the final year of the programme. In the first year, the college will be able to increase further on the basis of facilities and the amount of fees fixed on the basis of the category of the city. Technical educational institutions can charge fees only in four classes, which include tuition, development, examination and others (one percent of the tuition fee or not exceeding one thousand rupees).

In this, the institute will also have to upload the information about the fees of these four classes on its official website. Fees for dual degree and integrated program duration etc. have also been prescribed in this report.

Their council will decide the fees of architecture and pharmacy

The Architecture and Pharmacy Colleges are of course under AICTE, but they will not fix the fees. Actually, the Council of Architecture will make all the decisions regarding fees, syllabus, examination etc. in the architecture program. Similarly, the Pharmacy Council of India will also decide the pharmacy college.

Right of states to fix fees

AICTE decides the rules for courses, syllabus, exam pattern and seats etc. in all technical colleges across the country. The higher education department of all the states and the committee of the state government decide how much technical higher educational institutions will keep the fees. AICTE will share this fee-determined report and urge the states to implement it, but the state will have the right to accept it or not.

Students and parents will get relief

After the notification, students and parents will get the most relief. In fact, at present, fees ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 to 15 lakh are collected annually. There is a difference in the fees of government and private colleges in every state. Due to this difference, good and best students are forced to take admission in other courses instead of engineering. With the implementation of the new rule, parents will know in advance how much fee, in which year to pay. Private colleges will not be able to do anything arbitrarily.
