JNU non-veg controversy / FIR registered against unknown students of ABVP, today students will gherao the police headquarters, know the whole controversy

Violent clashes broke out between students of Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) Kaveri Hostel on Sunday in which more than 10 students of ABVP and Left organizations were injured. DCP Manoj of South-West District said that a complaint has been registered in this matter at Vasant Kunj police station.

This FIR has been received by JNUSU, SFI, DSF and AISA this morning itself in which a case has been registered against unknown ABVP students under Section 323/341/509/506/34 of IPC.

Police say that investigation is being done by collecting facts and scientific evidence in the case. At the same time, ABVP students will also file a complaint in this matter today. Appropriate legal action will be taken on receipt of complaint.

It is reported that students of Left organizations of JNU will gherao the police headquarters today demanding action against the violent clashes that took place on the day of Ram Navami at Kaveri Hostel on Sunday.

what is the whole controversy

• Some students at Kaveri Hostel had organized Ramnavami puja and havan on Sunday, the last day of Navratri. The time of the havan was at 3.30 pm. At the same time, some students had organized an Iftar party in the hostel itself after 5 pm to break the fast, which was to be organized after 5 pm.
• The Kaveri Hostel Committee and the students had taken the decision to organize together by mutual consent. At the time of worship of Ramnavami, outside students i.e. students of other hostels also came to the hostel. Meanwhile, after about four and a half hours, the worship of Ram Navami started.
• The worship was going on when on the other hand the preparations for the Iftar party started. Non-veg was also kept for this Iftar party. Some students objected to this. He said that since Ramnavami puja is going on and it is the last day of Navratri, non-veg should not be included in the menu of hostel mess.
• Students of both sides of Kaveri Hostel were talking about removing non-veg, suddenly stone pelting started. In this, the students of other hostels of JNU and Kaveri Hostel got entangled with each other and the dispute reached till the fight.

• It is also being said that non-veg is cooked every weekend in Kaveri Hostel. But it was opposed on Sunday. The protesting students argued that non-veg should not be made in the hostel on Ram Navami.
• This was the reason that when the person came to the hostel to supply non-veg, the protesting students not only sent him back but also harassed the mess secretary of the hostel.
