A major incident occurred in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday afternoon when a massive fire broke out in a goods train carrying new cars. The incident took place on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rail line, leading to significant chaos in the area. The fire spread with such intensity that within minutes, the entire wagon was engulfed in thick black smoke and towering flames. Several brand-new cars being transported in the wagon were completely destroyed in the blaze. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries to individuals have been reported in this accident.
Sequence of the Incident at Rupaspur
The incident is reported to have occurred near the Rupaspur area. According to eyewitnesses, the goods train was passing through the track during the afternoon when smoke was first noticed coming out of the first wagon situated immediately behind the engine, while in a very short span of time, the smoke transformed into fierce flames, and the fire took over the entire wagon. The sight of the moving train on fire caught the attention of villagers working in nearby fields and commuters, who immediately rushed toward the spot to provide assistance.
Loco Pilot's Quick Action Prevents Major Disaster
As the situation became critical, the loco pilot of the goods train demonstrated remarkable presence of mind. Upon realizing the severity of the fire, the pilot immediately brought the train to a halt. To prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the train and the engine, the pilot quickly detached the engine from the burning wagon and moved it to a safe distance. This prompt action by the driver ensured that the fire didn't reach other wagons, thereby averting a much larger rail disaster on the DFC line.
Rescue Operation Lasts for 1 Hour
Following the outbreak of the fire, a large crowd gathered at the scene. The high flames and the rising black smoke were visible from several kilometers away. Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), local police, and railway officials reached the spot. The security forces cordoned off the area and kept the public away from the tracks to ensure safety. Simultaneously, several fire brigade vehicles arrived and launched a firefighting operation. The fire department personnel had to put in significant effort to bring the blaze under control. After a rescue and firefighting operation that lasted for approximately 1 hour, the fire was completely extinguished.
Loss of 10 New Cars and Investigation
According to preliminary information, approximately 10 new cars present in the wagon were completely burnt and reduced to ashes due to the fire. While the financial loss is significant, the absence of any human casualties is a major relief. The railway administration has officially initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are looking into whether the fire was caused by a short circuit, a technical malfunction, or any other external factor, while the exact cause will only be determined once the final investigation report is submitted.
