Jaykrishna Patel / For the first time in Rajasthan, MLA arrested in bribery case - Gunman took ₹20 lakh

Rajasthan ACB caught BAP MLA from Bagidora, Jaikrishna Patel, taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. He had demanded Rs 2.5 crore in exchange for withdrawing questions related to the mining department. The deal was finalised in Jaipur. This is the first time in the state that an MLA has been arrested for taking bribe.

Jaykrishna Patel: An unprecedented incident has come to light in Rajasthan politics, when the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Bharatiya Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Jaykrishna Patel from Bagidora (Banswara) in a bribery case. This is the first time in the state that a current MLA has been detained on charges of taking bribe. This case raises serious questions on the state's politics and administrative transparency.

Deal of 2.5 crores, action for 20 lakhs

The case started with a complaint from a private company, which said that MLA Patel was constantly harassing them and obstructing work. In lieu of removing this obstacle, he demanded Rs 2.5 crore. The deal was fixed in the government quarters located in Jyoti Nagar, Jaipur, where the MLA's gunman tried to take the first installment of Rs 20 lakh.

As soon as the ACB team arrived, the gunman fled from the spot. ACB teams are raiding several places in search of him. However, despite the gunman escaping, the ACB took MLA Jaikrishna Patel into custody and took him to the headquarters.

Commotion in political circles, conspiracy or justice?

The arrest of the MLA has created a storm in the state politics. Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MP Hanuman Beniwal termed the action as a possible "political conspiracy" and said that when small parties become strong, such conspiracies are hatched to finish them. He also alleged that Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs are also involved in bribery in schemes in which leaders of big parties are involved.

At the same time, BAP national convener Rajkumar Roat said that conspiracies were going on against the MLA for a long time. He clarified that if the MLA is found guilty, the party will also take action, but also raised the question that who was the person who gave Rs 20 lakh and what was his motive? This should also be a matter of investigation.

Accurate monitoring and trap of ACB

ACB exercised utmost caution in the entire matter. The mobile numbers of the MLA, his gunman and the employees of the concerned company were put on surveillance, through which evidence was collected. As soon as the complaint was confirmed, the ACB team trapped Jaikrishna Patel on Sunday. ACB DG Dr. Ravi Prakash Mehara has announced to give detailed information about this action in a press conference at 5:30 pm.

Big victory in elections, now big allegation

Jaikrishan Patel had recently registered a huge victory by defeating BJP candidate Subhash Tambolia from Bagidora seat by 51,434 votes. He got a total of 1,22,573 votes. This seat was vacant after the resignation of former minister Mahendrajit Malviya.

What is the way forward?

This episode has not only highlighted the readiness of the ACB against corruption, but also showed that now accountability of people sitting on political posts is also being fixed. This incident is also a clear message for other public representatives that no one is above the law.

This is the first major action by the ACB against an MLA in Rajasthan, due to which it can be expected that the fight against corruption in the state will now be more stringent. In the coming days, this case can have an echo in both legal and political directions.
