The Central Government on Tuesday announced the Padma awards on the eve of Republic Day. It also includes the name of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. But now Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has refused to accept Padma Bhushan. In a statement, he said that he will not accept the Padma Bhushan award. He said, "I don't know anything about the Padma Bhushan award. No one has told me anything about this. If someone has given me an award, I return it."

Let us inform that Buddhav Bhattacharya has also been a member of CPIM's Politburo. So far, no leader of CPM and CPI has taken such an award. There was talk of giving Bharat Ratna to former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu too, but he too refused.

Is this a political stunt?

At the same time, government sources are calling his move a political stunt. According to news agency ANI, a government source said that a central government official had informed his family early in the morning about the Padma Bhushan award to him. During that time his wife had met the officer. The family had not given any information to the central government regarding the refusal of the award. The awards were announced in the evening itself. This is probably a political stunt.

Padma awards to six people from West Bengal

In the information given by the Central Government, it was told that the names of 128 people have been selected for the Padma awards. Of these, four will be honored with Padma Vibhushan, 17 with Padma Bhushan and 107 with Padma Shri. From West Bengal, Buddhav Bhattacharya was selected for Padma Bhushan, Victor Banerjee for Padma Bhushan, Prahlad Rai Agarwal for Padma Shri, Sanghamitra Bandopadhyay for Padma Shri, Kazi Singh for Padma Shri and Kalipada Soren for Padma Shri.
