Raipur. Prepaid Smart Meter: Smart prepaid electricity meters will start being installed in the homes, shops and industries of 59 lakh electricity consumers of the state from the year 2022. Now the meter will have to be recharged before using electricity. As long as there is recharge, the power supply will continue. If the recharge is over, then the supply also stops. Just like mobile. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given in-principle consent to this mega project of the Central Government 'Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme'.

Administrators of 6 states and 1 union territory along with Chief Minister Baghel attended the meeting taken by Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy RK Singh. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion regarding the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme in the state. The Center has sought a detailed project report from the states regarding this scheme by December 31.

Electricity company MD Harsh Gautam told the magazine that Chhattisgarh is the first state that has sent a proposal to the central government. 9500 crore will be spent in this scheme. In the meeting, the Chief Minister also supported the demand of giving additional time limit for payment of power subsidy by other states in addition to the scheme. Special Secretary of Energy Department Ankit Anand and other officials were present in the meeting.

Under the scheme, these will be 1- Meter- Smart prepaid meters will be installed, the gazette notification has been made. That is, it has to be done compulsorily by the states. 2- Infrastructure- Under this all the works related to electricity will be done. For example, underground cabling, separating pump meters, laying 33 kV, 11 kV lines. Replacing old lines. (Note- As told to the magazine by the company's MD Harsh Gautam.) Agricultural connections will be excluded in the scheme. There are 5.50 lakh consumers with agricultural electricity connections in the state, they have been excluded from this scheme. Because the state government provides electricity to them on subsidy and other schemes are also running for them.

The old smart plan is different. Officials of the Electricity Department say that in the past, a proposal was made to install smart meters in Raipur, Bilaspur and Raigad districts of the state and some meters were installed in Bilaspur. However, the old scheme has no relation with the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. It is worth noting that under the new scheme, a target has been fixed by 2025 to install prepaid meters. 3 big things related to prepaid meter 1- Like mobile, we have to recharge the meter for electricity supply, then only electricity will be supplied. 2- The power will be cut as soon as the recharge is over, like internet or outgoing calls are stopped in the mobile. 3- Electricity bill payment will be done online, like we do through the app.
