Independence Day 2025: On the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made several important announcements towards self-reliance in the technological sector, reiterating the resolve for a 'developed India'. These include Made in India semiconductor chips to next generation 6G communication technology and India's growing share in the gaming sector.

Made in India Semiconductor Chips: A New Era

PM Modi announced that semiconductor chips designed and manufactured in India will be available by the end of this year. These chips will be produced at state-of-the-art design facilities set up in Noida and Bengaluru. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has recently inaugurated chip design centers in both these cities, where chips based on 3 nanometer architecture will be designed. This is an important step for India in global semiconductor innovation.

India's first design center will produce 3nm chips, making India one of the few countries that are self-reliant in cutting-edge semiconductor technology. Earlier, 7nm and 5nm chips have been designed in India, and now with 3nm chips, India is moving rapidly towards global technological leadership.

Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved four new semiconductor projects, with a total cost of Rs 4594 crore. Two of these projects will be set up in Odisha, one in Punjab and one in Andhra Pradesh. These projects will help make India a major hub in semiconductor production.

6G Technology: Preparation in Mission Mode

The Prime Minister talked about taking the development of 6G technology forward in mission mode. This next generation communication technology will play an important role in making India a leader in global digital connectivity. The PM said, "India is working in mission mode in 6G technology.
