Telangana / Gay couple married in Hyderabad say no permission needed for happiness

Hyderabad | A gay couple Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dang have got married in Telangana. Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dang have turned their almost decade long relationship into marriage. After getting married, Supriyo said that marriage has given a strong message to everyone that one does not need permission to be happy. It is believed to be the first gay couple in Telangana. Though the wedding could not be registered, the ceremony was also attended by many guests from family and friends.

Of these two, Supriyo is 31 years old and Dang is 34 years old. At a resort in Hyderabad, the two first tied each other's rings and then resolved to perform together in the marriage ceremony. The wedding ceremony was supervised by a friend of the gay couple, Sophia David, who hails from the LGBTQ community. Supriyo told PTI, "December 17 and 18 was a two-day marriage ceremony.

Supriyo said, “It was an event where all our close friends and family members were present. We started with Mehndi and Sangeet. Me and Abhay are from different states. He (Abhay) is Punjabi and I am Bengali. We tried to put every possible essence into the dress we were wearing. We had a Haldi ceremony on Saturday and Sophia David took the responsibility of our marriage.

Supriyo and Abhay both work. One is in the field of IT and the other works for hospitality. The two met in the year 2012 through an online dating app and have been living together since then. Supriyo said that once same sex marriage is legalized in the country, they will get their marriage registered.
