T Raja Singh: The party has accepted the resignation of T. Raja Singh, MLA from Goshamahal assembly constituency of Telangana, from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Raja Singh took this step in protest against the appointment of N. Ramachandra Rao as Telangana BJP President on 30 June 2025. In his resignation, he accused the party leadership of ignoring the workers and selecting the wrong leadership. Also, he disagreed with the party's strategy in the selection of the state president, although reiterated his unwavering commitment to the Hindutva ideology. After the BJP accepted his resignation, discussions have intensified about the internal politics of the party in Telangana and its impact on the Hindutva movement.

T. Raja Singh: 'Tiger' of Goshamahal

T. Raja Singh, also known as 'Tiger Raja Singh', has been continuously elected MLA from Goshamahal assembly constituency since 2014. He won this seat in the 2014, 2018 and 2023 Telangana Assembly elections. The 2018 election was particularly significant for him, when most of the BJP candidates faced defeat, but Raja Singh retained his seat. Polarization of Hindu votes was important in his victory in Goshamahal, which is a Hindu-dominated area and falls under the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat. This is the same Lok Sabha constituency from where AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi is an MP.

Hardline Hindutva image and controversy

Raja Singh is known for his hardline Hindutva stance. He has been vocal in raising issues of cow protection, Hindu community and Hindutva ideology. He has had a long association with organizations like Bajrang Dal and Sri Ram Yuva Sena. However, his inflammatory and controversial statements repeatedly brought him into the limelight. A few years ago, his controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad led to his arrest, after which he was suspended by the BJP. However, his suspension was revoked ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, leading to his return to the party. He has several criminal cases registered against him, some of which are related to communal crimes.

BJP and Telangana politics after resignation

Raja Singh's resignation and its acceptance by BJP has raised questions on the party's strategy and organisational structure in Telangana. His strong hold in Hindu-dominated areas like Goshamahal and his Hindutva image had helped BJP get a special vote bank. Now with his departure, the party will have to formulate a new strategy in this area. Also, it will be interesting to see what steps Raja Singh takes next regarding his Hindutva ideology. Whether he will continue his activism from any other political platform or will independently raise Hindutva issues will be clear in the future.
