Giriraj Singh Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Attempting to Trigger Civil War

Union Minister Giriraj Singh has accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of attempting to incite a civil war in India through misleading statements in Parliament. BJP leaders have called for a privilege motion and the termination of Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership over his recent remarks.

The ongoing Budget session of Parliament has witnessed a sharp escalation in political tensions between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition. Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a scathing attack on the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of orchestrating a conspiracy to destabilize the nation. Singh claimed that Gandhi's recent statements are part of a calculated strategy to incite a civil war-like situation within India. This controversy erupted following Rahul Gandhi's remarks in the House regarding the India-US trade deal, former Army Chief General MM Naravane's book, and the Epstein files.

Giriraj Singh’s Direct Attack on Rahul Gandhi

Speaking to the media, Union Minister Giriraj Singh labeled Rahul Gandhi as a habitual purveyor of falsehoods. He stated that there is no bigger liar in the country than the LoP, who is allegedly using the floor of the House to spread misinformation. According to Singh, Gandhi's rhetoric is aimed at triggering internal conflict. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, the interests of farmers are fully protected, yet Gandhi continues to mislead the public. Singh further asserted that a privilege motion should be initiated against Rahul Gandhi for his conduct in the temple of democracy, where he allegedly presented fabricated narratives.

Demand for Disqualification by Nishikant Dubey

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey took the confrontation further by moving a motion in the Lok Sabha seeking the termination of Rahul Gandhi's membership. Dubey alleged that Gandhi is working in tandem with international figures like George Soros to mislead the Indian populace and undermine the government. In his motion, Dubey called for a comprehensive discussion on Gandhi's conduct and proposed a lifelong ban on him from contesting elections. The BJP MP argued that the LoP's statements regarding sensitive military and international matters aren't only misleading but also pose a threat to national security and diplomatic relations.

Perspectives from Chirag Paswan and Ravi Kishan

Union Minister Chirag Paswan also weighed in on the controversy, stressing the importance of maintaining the dignity of the LoP's office, while paswan remarked that while every member has the right to speak, making baseless allegations without any factual foundation is a violation of parliamentary decorum. Similarly, BJP MP Ravi Kishan described Rahul Gandhi's behavior as a sign of political frustration. Kishan argued that democracy is weakened when leaders make sensational claims without supporting evidence. He stated that any member bringing a matter to the House must provide documented proof to back their assertions, failing which it amounts to a mockery of the democratic process.

Observations on Parliamentary Decorum

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House during Rahul Gandhi's speech, expressed his disappointment over the nature of the debate. He noted that as the Leader of the Opposition, Gandhi should be mindful of the language and decorum expected in parliamentary proceedings. Pal questioned whether such conduct aligns with the principles of parliamentary democracy. Meanwhile, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker requesting the expunction of certain words and phrases from Gandhi's speech during the budget discussion, labeling them as unparliamentary and factually incorrect.

Impact on Budget Session Proceedings

The persistent friction between the treasury and opposition benches has led to frequent adjournments, hindering the legislative agenda of the Budget session. The BJP maintains that Rahul Gandhi's focus on controversial and unsubstantiated topics is a diversionary tactic intended to overshadow the government's economic policies. On the other hand, the opposition continues to challenge the government on various fronts, leading to a stalemate. The escalating war of words, involving allegations of inciting civil unrest and foreign interference, marks a significant low in the current parliamentary discourse, raising concerns about the productivity of the session.
