New Delhi: In the wake of the "alarming" security situation in Afghanistan, India on Saturday asked its citizens in Afghanistan to exercise utmost caution and caution and warned that Indians are at "serious risk of being kidnapped". In a fresh advisory, the Indian Embassy said that terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan have increased violent activities, including targeting civilians, and that Indians should not travel outside major cities. It said that the new advisory reiterates what has been said in the advisory issued on June 29 which is valid for all.

The embassy has advised Indian media personnel visiting Afghanistan to get in touch with it for a better risk assessment, citing "recent tragic events". Its reference is to the murder of Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui in Kandahar on 16 July.


He said, “The security situation in many provinces of Afghanistan remains dangerous. Terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan have increased violent activities, including targeting civilians. Indian citizens are no exception and they are also at serious risk of being kidnapped.


American soldiers will return by August 31

US and its allies NATO troops are leaving Afghanistan, after which terrorist activities have increased in the country. Meanwhile, India's new advisory has come. The US plans to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by August 31, ending its nearly two-decade military presence in the country.

In the advisory, the embassy asked all Indians visiting, living and working in Afghanistan to exercise "extreme vigilance and caution" with regard to their safety and especially not to undertake any non-essential travel. The embassy has also asked Indians to avoid visiting crowded markets, shopping complexes, mandis, restaurants and other public places.

He said, “Movement should be avoided, especially, during peak hours. While walking on the roads, keep a distance from potential targets such as military convoys, vehicles of ministries/government offices, vehicles of high ranking officials, law enforcement agencies.”


Advice on keeping traffic a secret

The embassy said that all essential movement should be kept as secret as possible. It said that traveling outside the main cities should be strictly avoided. Along with this, all Indians coming to Afghanistan have also been asked to get themselves registered with the Embassy or Consulate General. The Embassy once again advised Indian companies operating in Afghanistan to make special security arrangements for Indian employees posted at project sites.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Thursday said India supports the government and the people of Afghanistan in realizing the aspirations of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous future that protects the interests of all sections of society. India has been a major stakeholder in Afghanistan's peace and stability. India has already invested around USD 3 billion in aid and reconstruction activities in the country.
