Kerala News: The Kerala government has decided to remove the state governor Arif Mohammad Khan from the post of Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University. The Pinarayi Vijayan-led government on Thursday proposed an ordinance to change the rules. The dispute between the state government and Governor Khan over the appointment of a chancellor in the university had increased further. The state government announced that changes have been made in the rules of the university, after which Governor Khan would no longer be the chancellor of the university.

The governor is a representative of the BJP-led government at the Center and is known to clash with the state's Democratic Front (LDF) administration. The government on Thursday amended the rules of the Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, so that the governor can be removed from the post of chancellor and now a person of eminence in the field of arts and culture will be appointed to this post.

The state government does not want a governor at the top post

The Kerala government had said that it did not want Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to hold the top post of universities in the state. The Kerala government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan issued an order to amend the rules of the Deemed University on Art and Culture. According to the website of Kerala Kalamandalam, Arif Mohammad Khan is still its chancellor till the time of writing the news.

Conflict between the governor and the state government in the southern states

The Kerala government has taken this step when there is a tussle between the state government and the governor in the three southern states. In Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Telangana, there are disputes between the governor and the state government. The Kerala government has proposed an ordinance to remove the governor from the post of chancellor of the university. The Vijayan-led government said it no longer wanted a governor at the top post of the university in the state. The differences between the two sides were increasing over the functioning of the universities, including the appointment of the Vice Chancellor. In the revised rules of the university, it has also been said that the administration of Kerala Kalamandalam University will follow the decision of the state government.
