The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a massive military operation just 24 hours before the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect on April 16-17. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the IDF announced that it had eliminated more than 150 Hezbollah terrorists and commanders before the truce was implemented. The operation aimed to neutralize threats and dismantle Hezbollah's military capabilities.
Massive Operation 24 Hours Before Ceasefire
According to the IDF's official announcement, more than 150 Hezbollah terrorists were killed exactly 24 hours before the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon took effect. Alongside the personnel losses, approximately 300 army bases belonging to the group were destroyed. These strikes were strategically timed to eliminate any potential threats to Israeli soldiers and to degrade Hezbollah's operational capacity before the cessation of hostilities.
Elimination of Commander Ali Rida Abbas and Base Destruction
A significant achievement of this operation was the elimination of Ali Rida Abbas, the Hezbollah commander for the Bint Jbeil sector. Abbas was responsible for planning and executing numerous attacks against Israeli soldiers and the state of Israel. During the pre-ceasefire strikes, the IDF targeted and destroyed rocket launchers, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), anti-tank missile points, command centers, and other critical military infrastructure.
Impact on Hezbollah's Military Infrastructure in Bint Jbeil
Bint Jbeil, located in Southern Lebanon, is considered a major stronghold for Hezbollah. The region has seen intense fighting over the past few weeks, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of terrorists. The IDF stated that the death of high-ranking commanders like Abbas has dealt a severe blow to Hezbollah's command structure. This action took place just as a fragile 10-day ceasefire, mediated by US President Donald Trump, was set to begin on the night of April 16-17.
This development occurred during the eighth week of the Israel-Hezbollah war, which has claimed thousands of lives. Before the ceasefire became effective, the IDF decided to inflict maximum damage on Hezbollah's military infrastructure.
