SIPRI Report: The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on Monday released an important report on the status of nuclear weapons around the world. This report states that in the year 2025, India has significantly increased its stockpile of nuclear weapons and on this front it has now overtaken Pakistan.

Status of India, Pakistan and China

According to the SIPRI report, India has a total of 180 nuclear weapons in 2025, which was 172 in 2024. In contrast, the number of Pakistan's nuclear weapons has remained stable at 170 like last year. At the same time, the fastest increase in China's nuclear power has been recorded - while it had 500 nuclear weapons in 2024, this number has increased to 600 in 2025.

China's worrying pace

According to the report, China is not only rapidly increasing the number of its nuclear weapons, but concerns are also growing globally about its strategic intentions. The US and other Western countries are particularly cautious about China's growing nuclear expansion.

Russia and the US: Still the biggest nuclear powers

The report also makes it clear that only two countries — Russia and the US — have more than 90 percent of the world's total nuclear weapons. According to 2025 data, Russia has 4309 nuclear weapons while the US has 3700 nuclear weapons.

Threat to global stability

The SIPRI report not only gives the number of nuclear weapons, but also warns that the global strategic balance is changing rapidly. This arms race is becoming a serious challenge to international peace and security.
