India-Russia Relation / India is not a puppet, the country gave a befitting reply on Russia's oil import

India has responded strongly to Western criticism over its purchase of oil from Russia. Indian diplomat in Britain Vikram Doraiswami said, "We are not anyone's puppet." Citing energy needs and global instability, he said India cannot put its economy at risk.

India-Russia Relation: India has given a strong response to the criticism of Western countries, in which it was being advised to stop importing oil from Russia. Despite the constant demand of European countries that India should stop buying oil from Russia, India has made it clear that it is neither anyone's puppet nor will it put its economy in crisis.

India's blunt statement: We will not stop our economy

India's diplomat in Britain, Vikram Doraiswami, gave a clear answer to those who criticized India on this issue. He said, "India is the third largest energy consumer country in the world. We cannot put our economy at risk amid global tension." He said this when he was referring to the rising energy prices and supply problems, which are the result of decisions of other countries.

Doraiswami further said, "More than 80% of our energy needs are dependent on imports. Do Western countries want us to lock down our economy?" He quipped, "Should we ask you for a certificate of loyalty?" This statement was a strong attack on those countries which form strategic partnerships for their own interests, but question India's compulsions.

European Union sanctions and impact on India

The European Union (EU) has imposed new sanctions to stop the money coming from Russia through oil exports. These sanctions also include India's Vadinar refinery, in which Russian company Rosneft has a stake. Reliance Industries, which has an agreement with Rosneft to buy oil at cheap prices, has also been affected by these sanctions. The 18th round of sanctions by the EU has targeted 105 more ships, as well as banned the trade of refined oil.

India's strategy: Balance and autonomy

India has repeatedly made it clear that it will give priority to its energy security and economic stability. Importing cheap oil from Russia is an important part of meeting India's energy needs, especially when global oil prices are skyrocketing. Doraiswami said, "We see countries that make partnerships for their own benefit, but the same countries become a headache for us."

This stance of India not only reflects its independent foreign policy, but also shows that it will not compromise its priorities in the face of global pressures. India's firm stance on oil imports from Russia is a clear message to Western countries that India will not bow down to anyone regarding its economic and energy needs.
