India has assured Nepal that its policy towards Nepal will not change after the break of the alliance between Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) and the formation of a new government. This information was received from media reports. According to the news of 'The Kathmandu Post' newspaper, this assurance was given by India's Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, who on Thursday held separate courtesy meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Qazi Shrestha and Finance Minister Varsha Man Pun.

The report said that Srivastava told both the ministers that India's policy towards Nepal remains the same and it considers the political changes in Nepal as its "internal matter". The ambassador gave this assurance amid speculations that India is not happy with the alliance between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the new alliance between the CPN-UML and the Maoist Centre. Nepal Foreign Ministry spokesperson Amrit Bahadur Rai said that during the meeting with Shrestha in the ministry, Srivastava discussed various issues of bilateral and mutual interest.

'Himalayan Times' newspaper quoted Rai as saying that during the meeting, Shrestha and the Indian Ambassador discussed further strengthening of relations between the two countries and timely completion of development projects in Nepal with India's assistance, among other issues. The two ministers took the oath of office and secrecy on Wednesday and Srivastava is the first foreign diplomat to meet and greet them, the report said. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' quit the Nepali Congress on Monday and formed a new alliance with the second largest party - the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) led by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
