According to officials from the Airports Authority of India, the IndiGo flight 6E-723 was carrying 224 individuals, including the flight crew, on its journey from Kolkata to Chennai. The aircraft was scheduled to land at 11:30 PM. However, during the preparation for landing, the pilot discovered that the left engine of the aircraft had malfunctioned and stopped working. This critical technical snag occurred at a very sensitive phase of the flight, just as the plane was descending towards the runway.
