Israel-Iran War: The Israeli army (IDF) has claimed that it has killed Major General Ali Shadmani, Iran's top military officer and a close aide of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a precise airstrike on Tehran. Shadmani was recently appointed the head of the 'Khatam-al-Anbiya Central Headquarters' after Israel killed former chief Gholam Ali Rashid.Who was Ali Shadmani?Major General Ali Shadmani was considered the senior-most commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was considered a trusted military adviser to Khamenei. According to the IDF, he was the backbone of Iran's wartime military structure and his killing is a severe blow to Iranian military strategy.Iranian counterattack after Israeli attackSoon after the attack in Tehran, the entire city was rocked by loud explosions. On the other hand, Iran also launched a counterattack on Israel. Air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and West Jerusalem and there were reports of missiles and their fragments falling in several areas. The Israeli Defense Force said that they actively used air defense systems to prevent attacks.Losses in Iran's retaliationIranian missiles fell in four different areas of Israel. Notably, an eight-story building in the coastal city of Herzliya suffered heavy damage and an empty bus caught fire. However, no deaths have been confirmed so far. Missile attacks are also reported in the Dan district, where fire and rescue teams are active.Killings of top Iranian officials are happening continuouslyTwo days before the killing of Ali Shadmani, on June 15, Israel carried out another major attack, in which IRGC intelligence chief Mohammad Kazemi and his deputy Hassan Mohaqek were killed. It was reported that the bodies of both were recovered from the rubble of the Iranian intelligence headquarters. Will the scope of the war increase?Iran has made it clear that it is preparing to launch the biggest missile attack ever on Israeli soil. This makes it clear that the level of conflict will not remain limited to a military confrontation but it can turn into a wider regional war.
