India / IT engineer was in contact with Al-Qaeda, wanted to go to Iran and join terrorist organization

Bangalore. National Investigation Agency (NIA) has got a big success. NIA has arrested a software engineer from his house in Bengaluru. He is accused of alleged terrorist activities and links to the banned terrorist organization Al-Qaida. According to sources, the NIA has also detained two people for questioning in Palghar district of Maharashtra in related cases. The accused arrested from Bangalore has been identified as Mohammad Arif.

According to TOI, Arif is a native of UP. Arif was picked up by officers of the Internal Security Division (ISD) with the assistance of central agencies on the basis of a tip-off that he was allegedly in touch with Al-Qaeda. Also, Arif was quite active in social media groups discussing issues related to communal hatred. Arif was produced in a local court and taken into police custody for questioning.

Sources said that he was working from home. Along with this, his two laptops and mobile phones have also been seized during the arrest. He was living in Bangalore with his wife and two children. Arif came to Bangalore seven years ago. He has worked in different companies. A source said that 'he was actively associated with Al-Qaeda for the past two years and was participating in various online discussions encouraging terrorist activities.'

It is known that Arif had also planned to go to Iran and Afghanistan to join the Islamic State Terror Group. A police officer said that 'messages made by Arif with those living in Iran suggest that he was planning to meet them in March this year.' According to Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra, There is enough evidence to establish his links with terrorist organizations.
