Jaipur Police Bust Fake Gaming Call Center, 5 Arrested For 1 Crore Fraud

In a major breakthrough against organized cybercrime, the joint team of Shipra Path police station and the Cyber Cell in Jaipur has successfully dismantled a fraudulent gaming call center operating in the Bhankrota area. The operation led to the arrest of five individuals who are accused of orchestrating a massive cyber fraud network involving transactions exceeding 1 crore rupees. The gang reportedly lured unsuspecting victims with the promise of high profits through online gaming platforms, eventually swindling them of their hard-earned money.

Investigation Triggered by National Cyber Helpline

The investigation was initiated following multiple complaints registered on the National Cyber Helpline 1930 portal. DCP South Rajarshi Raj stated that the authorities found 8 distinct complaints against the accused individuals on the portal. These victims hailed from various states across India, indicating the nationwide reach of the syndicate, while in one specific instance, a victim reported a loss of 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees. However, upon a deeper analysis of the bank transactions associated with the accused, the police discovered suspicious dealings totaling more than 1 crore rupees.

Identification of the Accused

The police have identified the five arrested individuals as Ramesh Kumar, aged 25, a resident of Sedwa, Barmer; Nainaram, aged 35, a resident of Jodhpur; Krishna Kumar, aged 24, a resident of Dhorimanna, Balotra; Pappuram, aged 25, a resident of Sedwa, Barmer; and Praveen Kumar, aged 21, a resident of Dhorimanna, Balotra. These individuals were allegedly managing the operations of the fake call center and coordinating the fraudulent transactions.

The Raid and Technical Surveillance

The police received intelligence through the 1930 cyber portal that a gang was operating a fake call center in the Jaipur South region. To locate the suspects, the team conducted an extensive analysis of suspicious mobile numbers, call detail records (CDR), and bank account statements. They also reviewed CCTV footage and utilized technical surveillance to pinpoint the gang's location. The operation culminated in a raid at Flat Number 205, Krishna Sunrise Apartment, located in Bhankrota, where all five suspects were apprehended.

Operation Cyber Shield

DCP South Rajarshi Raj mentioned that this action was part of the special campaign 'Cyber Shield,' which is being conducted across the state from July 20 to August 20 under the directions of the Rajasthan Police Headquarters. The primary objectives of this campaign are the arrest of cybercriminals, the swift resolution of pending cases, and increasing public awareness regarding cyber security. The special team was formed specifically for this campaign, and the successful raid was executed based on information provided by Cyber Cell Constables Prabhas Kani and Sawai Singh.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

The Shipra Path police station has registered a formal case against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 318(4), 316(2), 112(2), and 61(2). Also, charges have been framed under sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act. The police are currently conducting a thorough interrogation of the suspects. Forensic examinations of the seized mobile phones, laptops, bank accounts, and other digital devices are underway. Authorities suspect that further questioning may reveal a larger network of cyber fraud spanning across the country, involving more accomplices and additional transactions worth crores of rupees.
