IPL 2022 / Gujarat Titans won the match by 8 runs, reached the top of the points table

In the 35th match of IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 runs. KKR had a target of 157 runs, in response to which the team could only score 148/8 and lost the match. This is the fourth consecutive defeat for KKR. Andre Russell (48) was the top scorer.


This is Gujarat's sixth win in 7 matches. With this, the team has also come to the first position in the points table with 12 points. The team has lost only one match so far. At the same time, it was Kolkata's 5th defeat in 8 matches. KKR have won only 3 matches so far.


Earlier, batting after winning the toss, Gujarat Titans scored 156 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Hardik Pandya scored the third consecutive fifty and scored the highest 67 runs. Andre Russell took 4 wickets for KKR.


Rashid's 100 wickets in IPL

With taking 1 wicket in the match, Rashid Khan completed 100 wickets in IPL. He achieved this feat by dismissing Venkatesh Iyer (17). Rashid became the overall 16th and fourth overseas player to score a century of wickets in IPL. Along with this, Rashid has also become the fastest spinner to take 100 IPL wickets. He made this record in 83 matches. Amit Mishra also completed 100 wickets in 83 matches.


Rinku and Venky pair

Kolkata had lost the first 4 wickets at the score of 34. The team looked in trouble but Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer added 45 runs in 36 balls to keep KKR in the match for the 5th wicket. This partnership was broken by Yash Dayal by dismissing Rinku (35).


Poor start for Kolkata

Chasing the target, KKR got off to a poor start. Sam Billings (4) in the first over and Sunil Narine (5) were dismissed in the third over. Both these wickets came in Shami's account. Nitish Rana also scored 2 runs and gave his wicket to Ferguson. KKR's score was 34/3 till the power play.


Russell took 4 wickets in the last over

Andre Russell came to bowl in the last over of Gujarat's innings. He took 4 wickets for just 5 runs in 6 balls and shook the team of Titans. In the first two balls of the over, he dismissed Abhinav Manohar (2) and Lockie Ferguson (0). Both were caught by Rinku Singh at deep midwicket. On the 5th ball of the over, Russell dismissed Rahul Tewatia (17). This time too the catch was caught by Rinku Singh and Yash Dayal was out for zero on the last ball.

Hardik's strong comeback

Hardik Pandya made a spectacular comeback in the playing XI to complete his third consecutive fifty in the tournament. He scored the 7th fifty of his IPL career in 36 balls. He returned to the pavilion after playing a vigorous innings of 67 runs in 49 balls. Hardik's form is very good news for the Indian cricket team.

Saha and Hardik partnership

Wriddhiman Saha and Hardik Pandya added 75 runs in 50 balls for the second wicket. Both the players troubled the Kolkata bowlers a lot. This partnership was broken by Umesh Yadav by dismissing Saha. Saha returned to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs in 25 balls. His catch was caught by Venkatesh at backward point.


Gujarat's performance in power play

The game of the first 6 overs was completely in the name of Gujarat. The team had lost Gill's wicket in the second over, but after that captain Hardik Pandya and Wriddhiman Saha took charge of the innings and took the score to 47 runs till the power play. GT scored 7.83 runs in the first 36 balls. During this, the team hit 4 fours and 1 six.


Gill out cheaply

Batting first after winning the toss, GT got off to a bad start and Shubman Gill scored 7 runs on the very first ball of the second over and gave his wicket to Tim Southee. His catch was caught by wicketkeeper Sam Billings. Gill has been failing continuously for the last few matches.
