world's biggest cannon

The one which has the status of the world's largest cannon is 'Jayaban' cannon. It is kept in the fort of Jaipur. It is said that this cannon was installed in the Jaigan Fort in 1720 AD.

The Jaiban cannon was manufactured at Jaigarh during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II (1699-1743). He built it for the security of his princely state. This cannon has never been used in any war.

The barrel of the cannon is believed to be 6.15 meters (20.2 ft) in length and weigh 50 tons. The circumference near the tip of the barrel is 2.2 meters (7.2 ft) and the circumference at the rear is 2.8 meters (9.2 ft). The diameter of the barrel bore is 11 inches and the thickness of the barrel at the tip is 8.5 inches.

The cannon is placed in a two-wheeled vehicle and the wheels are about 1.37 meters (4.5 ft) in diameter. Apart from this, the vehicle also has two removable additional wheels for transport, their diameter is about 9 feet.

Around 100 kg of gunpowder was used with 50 kg shells.

What is the specialty of the cannon and the shell it uses?

It is believed that the Jaiban cannon was tested only once, and when fired, the shell covered a distance of about 35 km. It is said that this ball had fallen in a town called Chaksu and a pond was formed by falling there.

About Jaigarh Fort

- This fort is located in Jaipur and is also the highest fort of Jaipur. It was built by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1726 AD.

The main attraction of the fort is the connecting underground passage between Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, so that people can get protection in case of attack.
