Vice Presidential Election: The political ground is ready for the Vice Presidential election of India. The 'India' alliance on Tuesday announced the name of former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy as its candidate. This decision was taken in an important meeting held at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in which the leaders of the alliance united and decided to field a joint candidate. On the other hand, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has declared Maharashtra Governor and senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate. In this way, an interesting contest will be seen in the Vice Presidential election.

B. Sudarshan Reddy: A strong pillar of the legal field

Born on July 8, 1946, B. Sudarshan Reddy started his career as a lawyer in the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council in December 1971. He practiced in writ and civil cases in the Andhra Pradesh High Court and earned fame for his legal expertise.

Key achievements:

  • 1988-1990: Worked as government lawyer in Andhra Pradesh High Court.
  • 1990: Additional standing counsel for the Central government.
  • 1995: Appointed permanent judge in Andhra Pradesh High Court.
  • 2005: Promoted as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
  • 2007-2011: Worked as judge of the Supreme Court of India, where he contributed to several landmark judgments.
Reddy also served as legal advisor and standing counsel of Osmania University. He retired on July 8, 2011, but his legal and social contributions are still inspiring.

CP Radhakrishnan: RSS stalwart and NDA face

NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is currently the Governor of Maharashtra and has been a senior functionary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). As the former president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he played a key role in strengthening the organisation. There is an atmosphere of excitement among NDA supporters since the announcement of his candidature on Sunday.

Electoral contest: What does politics say?

This election is not just a contest between two individuals, but also between two different ideologies. While B. Sudarshan Reddy is a symbol of legal impartiality and experience, CP Radhakrishnan represents organizational strength and political experience. The 'India' alliance is claiming to promote constitutional values and impartiality through Reddy, while the NDA wants to further consolidate its strong position under the leadership of Radhakrishnan.
