Vice President Election: After the resignation of former Vice President of the country Jagdeep Dhankhar, the process of election for the post of Vice President has started. In this election, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and India Alliance have fielded their respective candidates. Apart from this, a total of 68 nomination papers were filed, but only two of them were found to be valid. During the scrutiny of the nomination, a serious case of fake signature has come to light, which has raised questions on the electoral process.Fake signature caseA controversy has surfaced over the nomination papers of Jomon Joseph of Kerala. His nomination included the names and signatures of 22 proposers and 22 supporting MPs. However, the investigation revealed that many of these MPs were not aware of it and their names and signatures were used fraudulently. Some MPs clearly confirmed that they did not sign Jomon Joseph's nomination.Surprisingly, these fake signatures also included the name of YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy, who is currently in jail. After this revelation, Jomon Joseph's nomination was rejected.Nomination processThe last date for filing nominations for the Vice Presidential election was August 21. During this period, 46 candidates filed a total of 68 nomination papers. In the preliminary scrutiny, 28 nomination papers of 19 candidates were rejected. The 40 nomination papers of the remaining 27 candidates were scrutinized on August 22, in which only two candidates, C.P. Radhakrishnan and B. Sudarshan Reddy's nominations were found valid. Four nomination papers were filed for both.Schedule for Vice Presidential ElectionFormer Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on 21 July 2025 citing health reasons. After this, the Election Commission announced the election for the post of Vice President. Voting will be held on 9 September 2025, and the country will get a new Vice President on the same day. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is 25 August 2025.
