Vice President Of India: India has elected CP Radhakrishnan as its 15th Vice President. 67-year-old Radhakrishnan won this prestigious post by securing 452 votes in the recently held Vice Presidential election. Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, will now take over the responsibility of the second highest constitutional post in the country. His political journey, social contribution and long experience have made him suitable for this role.Early life and association with RSSCP Radhakrishnan was born in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. At the age of just 17, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which shaped his ideological and political life. His association with RSS was an important part of his life, which honed his leadership ability. He has had a long and rich political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which reflects his organizational ability and dedication.Beginning of political journeyRadhakrishnan's formal political career began in 1998, when he was elected Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore. His victory was particularly notable as it came after the Coimbatore bomb blasts. In this difficult time, he not only proved his leadership ability but also contributed to strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He was elected MP twice in a row in the 1998 and 1999 general elections. During this time, his role in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government earned him national recognition.Contribution to strengthening BJP in Tamil NaduRadhakrishnan was the Tamil Nadu BJP state president from 2004 to 2007. During this time he played an important role in strengthening the party's organization in the state and expanding its base. He was the BJP candidate from Coimbatore in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, he secured second place by securing more than 3.89 lakh votes, which was a major achievement for the BJP in a challenging state like Tamil Nadu.Activism at the national levelRadhakrishnan made significant contributions to the BJP not only in Tamil Nadu but also at the national level. He was a national executive member of the party and served as the chairman of the Coir Board under the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from 2016 to 2020. During this time he took several steps to promote the coir industry and strengthen the rural economy.Contribution as GovernorRadhakrishnan was appointed the Governor of Jharkhand in 2023. In this role, he paid special attention to the empowerment and social inclusion of tribal communities. His policies and initiatives accelerated social development in Jharkhand. In February 2024, he became the 24th Governor of Maharashtra. During this time he adopted a cooperative attitude with the state government and also maintained cordial relations with the opposition parties.
