This entire incident took place at the Kotri canal near the Nag-Nagin temple in Kota, where this boat had set out for immersion on Tuesday evening.
According to information received, this accident happened on Tuesday evening at around five-thirty PM, while a total of seven people were riding on the boat to go into the middle of the canal for the immersion of the Durga idol. As they moved forward with the immersion process, the balance of the boat suddenly deteriorated completely, and it became unbalanced and capsized. As soon as the boat overturned, all the people riding on it fell into the strong water current. Immediately after the accident, chaos erupted at the spot, and local people present nearby started rescue efforts immediately without caring about their own lives. Due to the promptness of the local people, three people were safely pulled out, but unfortunately, four other people went missing in the strong water current, and their search is still underway.
Upon receiving the news of this horrific accident, prominent leaders of the country and the region expressed deep condolences. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed deep grief over the boat accident in Kota. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla directed the district administration to work with complete promptness and readiness so that the missing persons can be found as soon as possible, while eyewitnesses stated that as soon as the boat overturned, cries echoed, and people nearby immediately rushed to save those who fell into the water. With the courageous efforts of the local people, three lives were saved, while four people went missing underwater. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Municipal Corporation's special diver team, SDRF, and Civil Defense teams reached the spot without any delay and started a war-footing search operation for the missing persons.
To make the rescue operation fast and effective, around fifteen to seventeen trained SDRF personnel along with the rescue team are fully engaged in this rescue operation. On top of that, to control and reduce the strong water current in the canal, the water inflow was also stopped with immediate effect by the administration so that no hindrance is caused to the divers and rescue teams in carrying out the rescue. Upon receiving information about this tragic accident, Rajasthan's Education Minister Madan Dilawar also took strict cognizance and issued strict directions to the district administration to start immediate relief and rescue operations with full speed. Following the instructions of the Education Minister, the administrative machinery became fully active.
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, District Collector Piyush Samaria and Kota City SP Tejaswini Gautam immediately rushed to the spot themselves. Both these senior officials reached the spot, took stock of the ongoing rescue operation, and gave necessary directions to the rescue teams. While talking to the media, City SP Tejaswini Gautam shared details of the entire incident and stated that a total of seven people were aboard the boat, and the boat became unbalanced and capsized during the auspicious occasion of Durga idol immersion. The rescue team is diligently engaged in searching for the missing persons.
When detailed information related to this accident came to light, it was revealed that a total of six children from the Sanjay Nagar area of Vigyan Nagar had reached this canal for the immersion of the Durga idol. All these children boarded the boat during the immersion, and right in the middle of the water, the boat suddenly capsized. According to the information that surfaced, Keshu, Golu, Suresh, and Rahul are feared to have drowned in this accident and have been reported missing. On the other hand, Mala Kanwar and Deepak, who were on the same boat, were safely pulled out with the help of local people. The SDRF, Municipal Corporation rescue team, and professional divers are continuously scouring every corner of the water to find the children. Following this heart-wrenching incident, the families of the missing children are in deep distress, crying inconsolably, and praying for the safety of their children. This search and rescue operation is continuously underway under the strict supervision of the district administration.
It's noteworthy that such accidents have continuously raised questions on security arrangements in the past. Earlier, a boat carrying eleven people had capsized near Gandhi bridge in Vaishali, in which one person died tragically and another went missing. This incident in Kota has once again underlined the necessity of following safety norms near water bodies and during religious events. All top administrative officials are present at the spot, and all possible efforts are being made to safely rescue the missing persons as soon as possible.
